Research What Jacksonville residents should know
MOSH Genesis is Stay Safe Jax’s listing for the Museum of Science & History’s planned Northbank museum, not an open walk-in attraction. Jacksonville Today reported on May 2, 2025 that MOSH would close its 56-year Southbank building at 1025 Museum Circle by September 1, 2025 and stay closed until a new museum opens on the Northbank Shipyards. This page is that move. It is not a claim that Museum Circle is still receiving visitors, and it is not a borrowed rating from the demolished Southbank house. A Places dump offered only the old MOSH card at 1025 Museum Circle, 4.0 from 1,337 reviews, marked CLOSED_PERMANENTLY. Stay Safe Jax rejects that card for MOSH Genesis. Attaching a closed Southbank score would pretend the old riverfront museum is the new project. The Florida Times-Union reported on May 5, 2025 that MOSH began as the Jacksonville Children’s Museum in 1941, moved from Riverside to Museum Circle in 1969, and would close by September 1, 2025 while a new Northbank building was planned. Jacksonville Today’s May 23, 2025 follow-up said the last Southbank exhibit ran through August 31. Public ratings on this page are stored snapshots, not live scores. Because Genesis is not an open museum and the Museum Circle Google file is the wrong building, the Stay Safe Jax headline is 0 from 0 reviews. Those zeros mean there is no verified consumer score for a building that has not opened. They are not a claim that families rated MOSH zero stars. The Jax Daily Record reported on June 9, 2026 that demolition was underway at 1025 Museum Circle. On September 1, 2026 — the same day Jacksonville Today posted new exterior renderings — the Daily Record said MOSH had reached 60 percent of design schematics for a projected 125,000-square-foot, five-story Northbank facility with about 50,000 square feet of exhibits, a cafe, and community space, putting groundbreaking on track for 2027 pending city approvals. The site is the Shipyards / Lot X area along East Bay Street near A. Philip Randolph Boulevard, where Hogans Creek meets the St. Johns River, south of VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena. The city–DIA–MOSH agreement described in that coverage has the museum building the structure, the city owning it, and MOSH leasing it for 40 years at $1 a year. Earlier 2025 stories still talked about a 2026 groundbreaking and a 2028 opening. The September 1, 2026 update is more current: design work continues, the Southbank house is coming down, and Genesis is not open. Stay Safe Jax leaves warning flags at 0. A museum in transition is not a safety scandal. Residents looking for a science museum this weekend should not treat Museum Circle as open and should not treat this page as a ticket window.
